About Thai Tones
Thai has five tones: mid, low, falling, high, and rising. The tone of a syllable is determined by:
- The class of the initial consonant (high, mid, or low)
- Any tone marks present (◌่ ◌้ ◌๊ ◌๋)
- Whether the syllable is live or dead
- The vowel length (for dead syllables)
