You're closer than you think

Two letters. One real word. You just read Thai.

กา

gaa — "crow"

That's the whole method: each letter has a sound, you read it straight from the script. Read Thai teaches all 44 in the order you meet them on real signs.

While the full Jam Kham app is in early access, you can start the Read Thai course today. Read signs, menus, and forms in about 8 weeks — $5/mo, or $49 lifetime.

You'll sound out your first word in minutes, then learn why each one carries the tone it does — a rule you own, not a sound you're guessing at. Reading comes first; vocabulary is the next step in the full app, and your Founding Reader perks carry over when it opens.

The Problem

Generic Language Apps Don't Work for Thai

Five tones. No spaces. 44 consonants. Here's why most apps fail.

01

Tone Blindness

The Thai word "mai" has multiple meanings depending on tone. Duolingo treats tones as optional pronunciation details.

Our Solution Jam Kham makes tones a core feature with dedicated training cards.

02

Script Segmentation

Thai script has no word boundaries. "ฉันกินข้าว" looks like one unit but contains 3 words.

Our Solution Jam Kham teaches syllable breakdown and word boundaries explicitly.

03

Shallow Memory

Recognition flashcards create weak memories. Without active recall, vocabulary vanishes within weeks.

Our Solution Jam Kham forces retrieval across 8 different card types.

Common Questions

Does Jam Kham teach me Thai?

With Jam Kham, you can learn to read the Thai alphabet and pronounce almost any word. You can also easily and efficiently reinforce and expand your vocabulary, but it's a tool not a language course. It's perfect if you're travelling to Thailand and want to know some basic words and phrases or if you're learning or know some Thai and want to expand your vocabulary and make word production and recall faster and more natural. A few users have even described it as their 'secret superpower' that turbocharges their Thai lessons.

How is Jam Kham different from Duolingo?

Duolingo uses gamification and treats all languages the same. Jam Kham uses research-backed spaced repetition with Thai-specific features: 8 card types, IPA transcription, syllable breakdown, and tone training. We focus on long-term retention, not streaks and XP.

What are Quick Modes?

Quick Modes let you adapt practice to any situation. Balanced (default), One-Hand (no typing—perfect for commuting), Silent (no audio—for libraries), Quick (recognition only—fastest pace), or Full (all 8 card types). Your preference is remembered.

What if I'm a complete beginner?

Perfect! You can start with Read Thai. Once Study Thai is live, our onboarding will include starter vocabulary packs with the most essential words in a number of common situations. The Quick mode is ideal for beginners who don't want to be overwhelmed. Jam Kham is a perfect way to lay the foundation for (and accelerate) formal Thai study as well!

Can I learn Thai script, or is it just romanization?

Both! In fact, we strongly believe one of the first steps to learning Thai is learning to read the Thai alphabet. We even made a special course (Read Thai) using the same neuroscience and linguistic techniques behind Study Thai to make reading accessible from day-1. In Study Thai, every word includes Thai script, romanization, IPA phonetic transcription with tone markers, and full syllable breakdown so you understand WHY words have their tones.

Is there a mobile app?

Jam Kham is a responsive web application that works beautifully on mobile browsers. Native apps are on our roadmap for 2026.

Can I use Jam Kham to prepare for a trip to Thailand?

Absolutely — that's what Travel Thai is built for. It covers 220+ phrases across 9 real situations like ordering food, getting around, shopping, and emergencies, and paces your practice to your trip date so you're ready by departure day. Travel Thai is coming soon — join the waitlist and we'll let you know the moment it opens.
