Songkran - Thai New Year
สงกรานต์Thailand's most famous festival marks the traditional Thai New Year. The water splashing represents washing away bad luck and paying respect to elders through the rod nam dam hua ceremony.
Loy Krathong
ลอยกระทงThais float decorated baskets (krathong) on rivers to pay respect to the water goddess and release negativity. In the north, Yi Peng overlaps with sky lantern releases.
Buddhist Holy Days
วันสำคัญทางพุทธศาสนาMakha Bucha (February), Visakha Bucha (May), and Asalha Bucha (July) are major Buddhist holidays. Alcohol sales are prohibited, and many Thais visit temples.
Royal Holidays
วันเฉลิมพระชนมพรรษาRoyal birthdays are national holidays. The late King Bhumibol's birthday (December 5) remains Father's Day. Queen Sirikit's birthday (August 12) is Mother's Day.
